Sculpture Speaks of Unity in Christ
Our friend Chuck Tryon is a missionary, along with his wife Sue, serving with Operation Mobilization. Although Chuck is a computer whiz who keeps OM’s computer systems up to date and running, he is also a sculptor who uses his art to open the door to share Christ with people.
Chuck did this sculpture recently and then wrote in their monthly newsletter:
The idea (for this sculpture) was of two hands—a man and woman—holding a cup between them, symbolizing the unity of a marriage.
However, it speaks just as well to any situation where God has brought two or more people together to share in His purpose. The cup is not held by one hand or the other, but supported by both together. Take away either one of the hands and the cup falls to the ground.
Chuck, of course, was speaking of the unity of the Body of Christ – all of us who love and follow Jesus Christ. We all need each other and cannot accomplish what God has called us to do without each other.
1 Corinthians 12 is wonderful chapter of the Bible that discusses how each of us has a special part to play in Christ’s body. Each part is important, and we do not function well without the gifts and abilities of each member contributing to the whole. Verses 25 and 26 say, “…There should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.” (NKJ)
We all need each other. Let’s hold up the cup together!
One way we can function as a body together is to give prayer and financial support to those who are spreading the Good News about Jesus. Chuck does not know that I’m sharing this, but he and Sue are trusting God to send in $6000 for them to go on a missions outreach at an arts festival in the Czech Republic, leaving September 19 or 20.
Through the arts, OM staff members hope to make an impact for Christ in this largely atheistic nation.
Here is a sculpture that Chuck made in anticipation of this trip. It’s called “Proclaim Release to the Captives.”
Please pray for Chuck and Sue as they go on this missions trip. And if you can donate toward the trip, do that too. Here is their contact info:
