Is Hope The Missing Key?
Peter has written for us in the past. We are pleased that he has agreed to share his devotional thoughts on hope with us!
“Hope” – the missing key?
by Peter J. Foster
Hope is an earnest expectation of what we desire.
It is, for many, the missing key!
HOPE an acronym:
Hears God’s Word that…
Opens our eyes to the…
Plans He has for us, to…
Energize our Faith.
Biblical hope stems from what God is telling us will come to pass.
So, how does hope work?
Hope paints a picture on our hearts of what we are thinking and meditating upon – In other words, for what we are longing for. That’s where the power is – in the imagination of our heart! (Which is also where the power for evil, failure and death is!)
For as he thinks in his heart so is he” (Prov. 23:7)
The Bible is full of promises. If that were not the case, then we would have no hope; or at least no positive hope.
We would, instead be meditating on failure, poverty, and disaster, which is exactly what we would get. But Christ died that we might have life and that we might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10) So we choose life!
This is not just wishful thinking, like a mere compliment. This is actively and purposefully seeing ourselves as God sees us, by reading what the Bible says about us. It is about taking the Word of God and actively meditating on it until we know and see in our heart what God promises. For example, you may like to meditate on the following scriptures:
“I am above only and not beneath…” “I am more than a conqueror…”
“I am blessed with very spiritual blessing in Heavenly places…”
So, why is it so important to get all fired up about hope?
Because it is Biblical hope that stokes the fire’s of faith.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1)
When we have our hope as an earnest expectation of grace’s future accomplishments, then faith comes into action and brings about the thing we hope for. Faith requires Hope! And hope does not disappoint!
