A Job Hunter’s Prayer
by Karen S. Roberts
Include Prayer in Your Job Hunt
Whether trying to find a job or looking for a promotion in your current job, being a job hunter can be a frustrating process. It is important to seek the Lord for wisdom concerning what jobs you should apply for. Daily prayer is important. It is an exercise of your faith as you trust God for exactly the right fit.
Include Praise in Your Prayer for a Job
Prayers in which you offer praise for the answer God is sending are powerful. Praise God for being your provider; praise Him for opening the right doors for you and closing the ones He does not want you to go through. Sometimes He is keeping you from getting the wrong job, for he knows that the best job for you will be coming along. It might be a job that is not advertised yet, but as you praise Him for how He is working out His plan for you, He will keep you in position to apply for that right job when the timing is right. So thank Him and praise Him that He is working out the right plan for you.
As a Job Hunter, I Prayed and Praised
I prayed a lot when I unexpectedly lost a job in 2008 and began a job search. It was taking a long time. I continued to praise God, for I knew He would reveal His perfect plan. Eventually, exactly the right job (which prepared me for a future career that I had never considered) opened up. The timing was important, for it resulted in me being able to move close to my parents who were having severe health issues. In fact, only four months after I moved there, my father passed away. It was really important to my mother to have me nearby to help her. If other jobs I had applied for had opened, I would not have been in the right location to be of assistance to them. That’s why I didn’t find another job quickly. God’s plan was in action.
A Sample Prayer for a Job Hunter
Pray in your own words, with faith, as you seek the right employment. You can use this prayer as a guide, but personalize it to your situation.
Dear Lord,
You know I’ve been searching for a job for three months. At times I feel frustrated, and yet I trust You during this time of transition. You have promised to supply all of my needs according to Your riches in glory. And You have taught me that all things work together for those who love God. You’ve also said that You will never leave me or forsake me. I am holding onto these promises, knowing that You are putting all the details together, and that my new job will open at just the right time.
So often in my life I have seen Your hand bringing together situations and circumstances that have helped me grow in You and that have brought about blessings in ways that I would have never anticipated. You have continued to provide for us, and I know You won’t stop. So often you have placed me in places in which there were people who needed to hear words from You that You gave me to speak to them. I pray that You will put me in the right position where I can be used by You the most.
I admit that I have my own ideas of what kind of a job I should have. But perhaps You have something entirely different in mind. You have shown me in Your Word that my thoughts are not Your thoughts and my ways are not Your ways. So often I have a preconceived notion of what You will do and what I should be doing. And then You amaze me with something so much better. So at this point in my job hunt, I lay down all of my ideas at Your feet and ask for You to reveal Your perfect will. Lead me in the path that You want me to follow. Help me not to be anxious. Let Your perfect peace fill me as I wait on You to show me the plan You have for me.
You have reminded me in Your Word that when we are feeling “heavy laden,” we are to come to You for rest. I do that today. Before I open up my computer to once again explore job openings and send out resumes, I ask that You will help me to draw near to You and to rest in Your Presence. Let me be filled with praise for You and hope for the future. Keep my attitude upbeat and keep my heart yielded to You. I know that You hold me and my family in Your hand. Our future is bright because You continue to pour out Your goodness and mercy on us.
Help me to know what I should do to prepare myself spiritually, mentally, and emotionally as I go about my job search. Give me the right connections with the right people. Open the doors that I should go through and close the doors that I should not go through. I want Your perfect will in my life and in my job situation.
I love You and I trust You, Lord.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
May God bless and lead you in your search for God’s best job. When you find your job, leave a comment to encourage others who are in the process of job hunting.
