Trusting God in Spite of the Coronavirus
by Karen S. Roberts
Our devotion for today is about how to trust God instead of being afraid.
Don’t Let Fear Motivate You
The news is full of tragic things happening in our world. One of the top concerns right now is the spread of the Coronavirus. Every day we hear of this ilness spreading into new countries. Some people are dying from it.
People who might have been exposed to it are being quarantined. This causes major disruptions to normal life, families, and employment.
The stock market is falling because people are pulling money out of investments, thinking that there will be a huge economic downturn.
It’s easy to get caught up in the fear. However, if we are walking with the Lord, we have many Scriptures that promise us that He is with us and is taking care of us. Over and over again, we are told not to be afraid.
7 Ways to Trust God When Fearful Thoughts Try to Take Over
- Read Scriptures that remind you how God is with you and is taking care of you. One that comes to my mind is this: Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer, asking earnestly and with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God, which is way beyond all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
- Write down Scriptures like these and come back to them whenever you start to feel anxious. Read them aloud to yourself and to others.
3. Realize that feelings of fear and anxiety are often coming to our minds through demonic whisperings that our thoughts grab onto, Remember that you have the power, in Jesus’ name, to speak out loud to these thoughts and tell them to leave in Jesus’ name. For instance, you might say, “Spirit of fear, get out of here right now, in the name of Jesus Christ. I am covered by the blood of Jesus, and He is protecting me. No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
4. Put on some uplifting Christian music. Let it minister to your spirit as you concentrate on the messages of the songs. Sing along, lifting your praises to the Lord.
5. Think about times that God has taken care of you and protected you in the past. If you have journaled throughout your walk with God, pull out some of your journals and read. You may have forgotten some of the great things God has done for you in the past.
6. Pray for protection over your family, friends, loved ones, and yourself. Put your faith in Jesus and know that when you pray, He is working.
7. Join with your Christian brothers and sisters in church, Bible study groups, and prayer meetings. Pray together against the Caronavirus and anything else that may be troubling you and others in the group. Joining together in prayer, Bible study, and worship will do much to strengthen your trust in God during these difficult times.
