Children’s Devo – The Wise and Foolish Builders
Bible Story of the Wise Man and the Foolish Man
by Karen S. Roberts,
Hey Kids! Do you know the story of the wise and foolish men who built houses? Jesus told us this parable, which we can read in Luke 6 or Matthew 7. A parable is a story of something that could happen on earth, but it has a heavenly (or spiritual) meaning.
The wise man built a strong foundation for the house he was building. He built his house on the rock. The foolish man must have been in a hurry. He built his house on some sand. Sand does not make a good foundation for a house – it slips and slides around and gets muddy in the rain.
Both men moved into their new houses and everything was fine until it rained. The house on the rock withstood the storm and was fine. But the house built on the sand fell down.
What do you think the heavenly meaning of the parable is?
The Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ is our rock and firm foundation. If you build your life on Him by yielding to Him and allowing Him to rule your life, your life be held in His protection and will be blessed. But if you don’t let Jesus rule your life, the foundation of your life will slip and slide around like the house on the sand. You can’t experience the blessings and plan that God has for you when you run your own life.
A Prayer forJesus to be Your Rock
Would you like to make Jesus the solid rock foundation of your life? If so, pray this prayer, “Dear Lord, please forgive me for all the times when I have not trusted You and have run my own life. Today I want to give my life to You. Please build me into the person You want me to be and let me be set on Your strong foundation. Hold me in place when problems come like storms. Don’t let me slip away from You. Help me to read Your Word and draw close to You every day. Thank You for being my Rock! In Jesus’ name Amen.
